【108-1】Exchange Student from East to West

In the past few years CTBC students travelled abroad to many of our partner schools in 3 continents via exchange partnership, and most of them went to Japan, Korea, or Southeast Asia. Ms. Yang Xuan-Rou was the first one whom was exchanged to Medicine Hat College (MHC) located in the city of Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada.

Medicine Hat is a public, board governed, and comprehensive college established in 1965. Main campus is in Alberta; another is Brooks Campus. More than 40 diplomas and certificates are offered along with 25 university transfer programs, and numerous apprenticeship trades. There are also several opportunities for degree completion at MHC. Students are able to complete a bachelor's degree in nursing, education, and business.

“Everything gradually fell on track when I arrived 2 weeks later, at first it sure was a bit hard keeping up with the speaking speed of teachers, and when most of my classmates are native speakers which took me quite some time to catch up in classes,” Xuan-Rou said. Luckily, the host family welcomed and assisted her in many ways. At the same time Xuan-Rou became good friends with her Japanese roommate and made more friends with her peers at Medicine.

This semester definitely was an eye-open and personal growth exchange experience for her.

The International Affairs Center offers many exchange information, and we’re sure you’ll find your own path to be who you want to be.
